Sarah McClellan

Sarah McClellan enters her eighth season as head coach of the Redhawks in 2023.

McClellan and the Redhawks are coming off a solid 2022 campaign that saw Roberts win its first eight matches and compile a 14-4-2 record. The Redhawks qualified for the East Coast Conference Championship for the second straight year before bowing out in the semifinals. Roberts also reached the semifinals of the National Christian College Athletic Association Championships in Kissimmee, Fla.

Roberts has notched three 10-win seasons (2016, 2019, 2022) under McClellan and went 4-0-1 in the abbreviated 2021 spring season.

The Redhawks have also enjoyed success in the classroom under McClellan’s leadership and were most recently recognized by the United Soccer Coaches for Academic Achievement during the 2021 season.

McClellan came to Roberts in 2016 after spending eight seasons (2008-2015) as head coach at Binghamton, a Division I program and the prior two seasons as the top assistant. During her tenure, the Bearcats advanced to the America East Conference tournament five times which included a trip to the championship game in 2009. McClellan also guided her teams to the conference semifinals in 2008 and 2011.

McClellan came to Binghamton from Drury (Mo.), a Division II member, where she served two years as the assistant coach (2004-2005). McClellan then served as head coach of the Maryland Pride in the semi-pro Women's Premier Soccer League in 2006.

Prior to her time at Drury, McClellan was the lead assistant at Goucher (Md.), a Division III member, during the 2003 season. That squad went 8-7-4 and in the process, completed the second-best turnaround in the nation from the previous year.

McClellan is a 2003 graduate of the University of Maryland, where she played under U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame member and World Cup Champion Shannon Higgins-Cirovski. The Terrapins advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice in her three seasons on the squad. After earning her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, McClellan completed her Master's degree in Physical Education at Drury.

As a professional, McClellan spent four years playing in the pre-professional W-League and the WPSL. Among her post-collegiate accomplishments, McClellan garnered a national award from the WPSL in 2005, being named to the season's WPSL All-Stars First Team.

A member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America since 2003, McClellan holds an NSCAA Premier diploma and a United States Soccer Federation "A" license - the highest coaching badge awarded. She is also a member of the United States Soccer Federation.
