Garrett Cobb

Garrett Cobb (Clifton Park, NY) enters his seventh season as the Sage Head Women's Soccer coach in 2022. Three times during his tenure, Sage has garnered post-season appearance. During the spring of 2021, the Gators captured the Empire 8 Championship, a program first, and wrapped the season ranked 25th in Division III in the final United Soccer Coaches Poll.


In his first campaign with the Gator women's soccer team, Cobb directed the squad to a 12-8 overall record and a return to the Skyline Conference tournament. The 2016 campaign ended with a heartbreaking loss to the eventual league champions after garnering a 7-2 conference regular-season campaign in 2016.


Samantha Trimblett, earned Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Year honors, and finished the year with 40 points on 16 goals and eight assists. She was ranked in nine different categories on the 2016 campaign. Among her feats, she was ranked 38th nationally with her 40 total points, while also standing 42nd in total goals (16), and 83rd in assists (8), as well as 79th with her four game-winning goals. She was also honored as the Sage Female Athlete of the Year.


In 2017 Sage moved to the Empire 8 and in his third season, Cobb led the Gators to a spot in the E8 semifinals as the Gators went 10-7-2 along the way in 2018. The Gators are coming off a 7-11 season in 2019 but had tremendous success. Under Cobb, the 2017, 2018, and 2019 teams have all been honored by the NSCAA as Scholar-Teams.


In 2019, Sage's forward Natalie Ricci earned a selection to the Empire 8 First Team after leading the Gators with her 25 points on 10 goals with five assists. She had two game-winning goals along the way and was also honored with two citations as the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week. Along the way in 2019, Ricci added a number of impressive single-game performances. Her 3 goals in the Gators' contest with Alfred ranks tied for second at Sage in single-game records, while her 3 assists against Elmira ranks second as well. She finished with 7 points against Elmira in 2019, which is tied for third best in single-game scoring marks. She capped her year having also earned a selection as the 2019-2020 Sage Female Rookie of the Year.


Sage's sophomore midfielder Angela Gonzalez was placed on the E8 Honorable Mention Team with senior tri-captain Maegan Villa. Sage's rookie goalie Kallan Shertzer earned a selection to the Empire 8 Women's Soccer Sportswoman Team. Sage had three women's soccer players also honored for their outstanding work in the classroom as they was chosen as Scire Scholars, while junior Samantha Schmidt was selected to participate in the 2020 Career in Sports Forum by the NCAA.


With the fall of 2020 not contested, the Empire 8 played their season in the spring of 2021. In a record-setting season, the Gators won the program's first Empire 8 Championship after hosting the tournament. Along the way, the Gators had numerous players garner several weekly player of the week citations as well as a host of post-season awards. Seven players were named to the Empire 8 All-STar Team, while rookie Marissa Key was named the Rookie of the Year. Four players were named to the All-Tournament Team as Hallie Klosterman, a First Team All-Star player, was selected as the Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Klosterman, senior defender Samantha Schmidt and sophomore defender Julia Gerringer were also named to the USC's Player of Distinction List for Division III. Klosterman was named the 2020-2021 Grand Collegiate Woman of the Year at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala, and wasl also named to the 2020-2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. She was also selected for the 2020-2021 United Soccer Coaches Player of Distinction NCAA Division III Team, as well as the 2020-2021 USC NCAA Division III Women Scholar All-East Region Team. The RSC Athletic Honors Society member has made the Empire 8 President's List and Dean's List every year.


The 2021 Gators had five players recognized by the Empire 8 will all-conference honors, while Klosterman once again was a repeat honoree for the CoSIDA Acadmemic All-District Team for her accomplishments in the classroom and on the soccer pitch.


Wrapping his sixth year as the head coach of Sage's women's soccer team, Cobb owns a career record of 48-45-4, while numerous women's soccer scoring marks and records have fallen in the program's record book during his tenure.


Cobb is a veteran in Sage’s department of athletics having served the three seasons as the assistant men’s soccer coach. In 2015, he helped lead the men’s team to the program’s first Skyline Conference Championship and an NCAA Division III Tournament bid after an impressive 13-4-2 record. During his time with Sage’s men’s team, Cobb helped the Gators to two regular-season Skyline Championships (2013 and 2015), while also helping to collect a NSCAA Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award in 2014 as well as numerous Skyline Conference all-star selections including the 2013 Player of the Year, as well as the 2014 and 2015 Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the 2015 Rookie of the Year.


Cobb arrived at Sage after coaching locally for over a decade in the Capital District. He came to Sage after leading Christian Brothers’ Academy as the boys’ head soccer coach for two seasons. He turned them into a winning program within a span of just two short seasons. He was tapped as the 2012 Class AA Big 10 Coach of the Year after leading the squad to a 9-6-2 finish after posting just three wins the previous season. Cobb has also served a head coach and club trainer for the Capital United Soccer Club, winning a U-17 US Youth Soccer National Championship. He currently coaches with Albany Rush and is the director of coaching for the girls program. He is a NYS certified coach and has obtained both a Premier Diploma from United Soccer Coaches (formally National Soccer Coaches Association of America) and a B License from the United States Soccer Federation.


A graduate from Shenendehowa High School, he also excelled as a member of the Capital United club soccer team. He played collegiate soccer for East Carolina University.
